I don’t like being called Teacher, I always insist on students calling me Kunmi because I feel ‘Teacher’ creates a distance and power relationship that I’m not altogether comfortable with. But today, after I insisted she call me by my name, one student said to me:
“A teacher is someone who I respect, and this is why I call you Teacher.”
Well, what to do but accept that…
